Is Kent Lining Up for a Classic Surf Summer?

After a few hit-and-miss seasons, the early signs are starting to get our hopes up—this summer could be one to remember for surf in Kent.

While it’s always tricky to guarantee swell long-range (we’re not fortune tellers, after all), the forecast models are showing some encouraging patterns. There’s a strong chance that we’ll see a good number of high-pressure systems settling into place, which typically open the door for northeasterly to easterly swell events. If these set-ups hold, it could mean a string of decent pulses lighting up our coastline.

Even better, the sandbars are currently shaping up nicely. Joss Bay is already showing improved form, and Viking Bay isn’t far behind. Across the coast, a few lesser-known spots are also looking more groomed than they have in recent years—something we haven’t been able to say for a while. Cleaner banks mean more consistent waves and longer rides, especially when the swell direction and tides line up just right.

It’s still early days, but things are looking positive. Keep an eye on the charts, dust off your summer boards, and maybe start clearing your diary—Kent might just deliver this year.
